About the U of T GPA Scale
The University of Toronto uses a 4.0 GPA scale with full +/- refinement. The most notable feature: A+ and A both carry 4.0 grade points. The A+ notation appears on your official transcript as a mark of distinction (90-100%), but it does not give you a GPA advantage over a plain A (85-89%).
U of T offers Credit/No Credit (CR/NCR) grading, allowing students to take up to 2.0 full course equivalents without affecting GPA. This is popular for electives or courses outside your major. Compare with other Canadian universities on our percentage-to-GPA guide.
| Letter Grade | Grade Points | Percentage Range |

How U of T GPA is calculated
U of T GPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade point values. The formula is:
GPA = Sigma (grade point value x credit weight) / Sigma credit weight
Each course contributes grade point value x credit weight. CR/NCR courses are excluded from the GPA calculation entirely. U of T calculates GPA on the 4.0 scale (not 4.33), so an A+ does not boost your GPA above 4.0.
