How UF GPA is calculated
Your UF GPA is your total grade points divided by your total graded credit hours. Each course contributes grade points × credits; S/U courses add credits but no grade points. The calculator above does the credit-weighted math automatically.
Frequently asked questions
How does UF calculate GPA?+
The University of Florida uses a 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades, in one-third-point steps: A = 4.0, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.0, B- = 2.67, and so on down to D- = 0.67. There is no A+ grade — an A (4.0) is the maximum.
Does UF use plus and minus grades?+
Yes — UF uses plus/minus grading, but with one-third-point steps (3.67, 3.33, 2.67…) rather than the 0.3-point steps some schools use. UF does not award an A+; the highest grade is A = 4.0.
What is a failing grade at UF?+
UF uses the letter E (not F) for a failing grade, worth 0.0 grade points. WF (withdrawn failing), I (incomplete), and NG (no grade) also carry 0 points.
Do S/U courses count toward my UF GPA?+
No. S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) courses do not carry grade points and are not included in your UF GPA. An S is equal to a C (2.0) or better, but the course only counts as credits earned.
How does grade forgiveness work at UF?+
UF allows repeat coursework under certain conditions, and the policy for which attempt counts toward your GPA depends on when the course was taken. Check the current undergraduate catalog for the repeat-coursework rules.
What GPA scale does UF use for grad school applications?+
UF's official transcript uses the 4.0 scale above. When a graduate program or credential service recalculates your GPA, they may use a different method, so always confirm with the school or evaluation service.
